Form Follows Green?
Sustainable architecture has a long history in Germany and is nurtured by two contrasting traditions: the search for an alternative, ecological life-style and the persistence of modern architecture at a high-tech level. The international architectural discourse of the last ten years, however, was molded by another kind of development: the rise of star architects and signature buildings. UPDATING GERMANY presents a different architectural solution: four unique projects that continue along the lines of social impetus and societal requirements intrinsic to earlier ecological projects while simultaneously taking today’s realities into account.
